Why You Still Don’t See a lot of Electric Cars for Rent

If you’re looking to rent a car in Whitby, Pickering, Ajax or Oshawa, you might think about renting an electric car.
However, if you’re traveling far, the idea fades pretty quickly. That’s because range limitations are still a mass concern for the electric car, and why you’re still not seeing a whole fleet of them at your local car rental.
A recent Bloomberg article says that, “Limited range is holding up demand for electric vehicles nationwide, both in rentals and sales.”
“About 140,000 plug-in EVs are on U.S. roads, short of President Barack Obama’s goal for 1 million of the cars by 2015, data from the Electric Drive Transportation Association shows. That may slow efforts to cut pollution from transport, which is responsible for a third of U.S. carbon-dioxide emissions.”
You have to open your wallet, if you do want an electric car with a range that of more than 100 miles.
For example, the Tesla Model S can achieve a maximum of 300 miles but carries the cost of exotic-luxury-car status. It can rent for hundreds of dollars per day, IF you’re lucky enough to find one.
